Lakota Cultural Center Mission Statement: The primary purpose of the Lakota Cultural Center, Inc. is to Preserve and Educate Lakota Culture on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.

ABOUT US

The Lakota Cultural Center was built in 1973, located along highway 212 driving into the heart of the Cheyenne River Reservation at the tribal headquarters in Eagle Butte, SD. The vision of the Lakota Cultural Center is to promote, preserve, enhancing the traditional culture, arts, history, music, and religion of the Lakota people. Collaborating with other programs for the benefit, enjoyment and education of tribal members, as well as the general public. Collecting information pertaining to Lakota culture and to maintain and sharing information for tribal members, and the public.

The central feature of the building is a contemporary tipi reflecting the conventional circular shape associated with the Indian tipi. 

 

The cone has been truncated and a translucent skylight provided in the center of the roof. This circular rotunda is 60 feet in diameter through the outer wall.
